Meet your Board
Alicia Medley, Senior EMR Analysis, Unity Healthcare
I began my career in the ER where I worked for almost 10 years and the Med/ Surg floor for 3 years at a local hospital. I then changed my career path to IT at Unity Healthcare 4 years ago, I needed a change and a career that would challenge me. I love learning new things, challenging existing workflows to be better, and pushing my abilities every day. In the last 4 years I have learned: interfacing, V10 and V11 notebuild, implementing new processes/ procedures in offices, implementing new offices, implementing office onto EMR from paper, Upgrades for 11.2, 11.4, 15.1, and 17.1, implementing 3rd party applications, MU, FollowMyHealth, Immunization Registry, and many more. Currently, we have been beta testers for 17.1 and are looking at implementing CorePoint, Charge, HealthAsyst, and Canvas this year. When I was new to Allscripts, I give so much credit to CRUG members for helping me learn the product quickly!! I have been on the board for 2 years now, time flies! I love working with other members on the board, working with members, and watching this group grow! Outside work I am a consultant with LuLaRoe, another challenge for myself. My husband, 2 children, and two dogs enjoy this incredible journey with me.
Zack Kahmeyer, MA, LPCC, Health Information Management Supervisor at Nystrom & Associates, Ltd.
Nystrom & Associates, Ltd., currently has 50+ Psychiatric providers and another 400+ outpatient mental health therapists that use Touchworks across 11 MN clinics. Since completing my Masters in Counseling Psychology I have been working with Nystrom & Associates, Ltd., in various capacities. Upon starting with them in 2012 I had the joy of being a beta tester for our Touchworks company roll out. In a fit of altruism I offered to help with the roll out at our other locations. A couple months later I received a call to aid in just that and I have been locked in ever since. Administratively, I have spent time in our Quality Assurance department, auditing records and implementing policies and procedures for our clinical therapy staff and for our Psychiatric providers. In my current role, I am responsible for general administration, maintenance, build and project management for all Touchworks and FollowMyHealth related items and manage implementation projects for Allscipts PM. Beyond those, I am responsible for provider compliance with Meaningful Use and soon to be MIPS/QPP and general quality improvement efforts for Touchworks. Current projects include implementation and roll out of EPCS and eAuth, planning and preparation for 17.1 and in my down time from those projects I supervise a team of HIM staff who are responsible for outbound releases of records for the company. Our organization is relatively new to CRUG, but it has already proved to be a valuable connection to resources with different experiences and knowledge. I am excited to be the Vice President of CRUG and to work with the rest of the Board to continue growing CRUG and advancing our efforts to make it a singularly valuable resource to other Touchworks users. In my non-work time, I enjoy reading a good book, playing some video games, and spending time with my wife Jenni and our two cats Loki and Samantha.
Matthew Fainter, Large Project Lead, Blessing Health System
I began my career in Health Care IT when my family and I relocated to Quincy, ILin 2010 with Blessing Health System as a Systems Coordinator in the Health Information Management department. I moved to the Information Systems department working as a Systems/Application Analyst for our ambulatory division primarily working with the Touchworks application and its integrated components. As of 2017 our ambulatory division currently has 80 physicians and 30 nurse practitioners and we average around 700,000 patient encounters per year. We also play host to a non-sharing organization with 5 physicians, 5 nurse practitioners, and around 20 residents. In October of 2015 I took on the
role of Information Systems Large Project Lead. As such my primary responsibilities are evaluating new IT solutions, project implementation planning and execution, resource planning, and also serving as a knowledge expert in several applications including Touchworks EHR, dbMotion and Nuance products. I work very closely with our corporate and physician leadership to perform needs assessments and research and implement solutions to meet those needs. My organization was a member of the CRUG group when I started my System Analyst role, and I found the information that I received from working with other members extremely valuable as I started working with the Touchworks product. In 2016 I was given the opportunity to give back to the group that had helped me so much and joined the CRUG board as secretary. I look forward to helping grow the already great user base that we have.
Dorothy Ellis, Health Information Management Supervisor, Medical and Surgical Clinic of Irving
I currently work for Medical and Surgical Clinic of Irving (MSCI) as a Health Information Management Supervisor and member of the E H R Team. I also serve as the CRUG Board as the board Treasurer.
I came to MSCI after working for ten years at a specialty clinic where I served as an EMR Coordinator This role developed experience and knowledge in clinical documentation, billing, and coordination of all services within the practice. I was responsible for merging the functional language and practices of the clinic versus the features and layout of the Allscripts application. I served as the project manager for transitioning to Allscripts while also providing end user and application management support with a focus on problem and incident management. That proved to be beneficial since we are doing a similar EMR transition currently at MSCI.
I came to MSCI in 2011 to further my Allscripts knowledge and experience, and for growth opportunities that a multi-specialty practice of 40 Providers offers.
My roles as a HIM Supervisor highly focus on Department Staff management, EMR\EHMR application management including: reporting, master and customized note form development and management, training within the corporation, Phreesia technology support and management, and internal practice initiatives, such as Follow My Health Patient Portal. My position requires constant effective communication within the team that I manage and throughout all areas of the corporation, and various vendors which I enjoy since I find the people aspect of my job as rewarding as the technology areas. It provides the opportunity to learn how other groups and departments operate, which in turn gives better insight to how the EMHR systems can better tie in to provide a more useful and an easier to use toolset.
Professionally, my opportunities as an Officer in CRUG (Secretary in 2016 and Treasurer for 2017) has provided an opportunity to grow personally, as well as work as hard as I can on behalf of all my colleagues to optimize Allscripts software in our unique care settings.
Event planning seems to be my forte as I am a permanent committee lead for all festive events, thereby exercise my social side. I’m married to a wonderful husband (Johnny) of 28 years. We have a son (Johnathon) and a daughter (Shaey), we survived 2 weddings in 2016. Our family hobby is to ride motorcycles, and to just spend time together.
Cassie Slagter, Implementation and Training Specialist, CHADIS
I started with CHADIS in August of 2016 as the Implementation and Training Specialist. Prior to this role, I spent 4 years at Affiliated Community Medical Center as an EHR Application Specialist and EHR System Administrator, respectively. While at ACMC, I worked with FollowMyHealth, v11 notes, implementing third party applications, and training. Of course, I logged my fair share of issues and bugs along with many other aspects of the Touchworks environment. I have been an active part of Central Region User Groups since I started my employment with ACMC. I am currently the co-treasurer of CRUG and have enjoyed my time on the board. At home, I love being a mom to Emerson who is about 15 months old and wife to Ryan and puppy mom to Oliver our yellow lab.

I have worked at Summit Orthopedics in Woodbury, MN for almost 6 years. I have served on the CRUG board for the past 2 years. I have held several positions at Summit starting as a contractor for the Allscripts TouchworksEHR implementation. I work with clinical staff, IT, operations, executives and ancillary staff to improve the use of our current clinical systems and workflows. My primary responsibilities are to manage a team of three talented individuals who are dedicated to making the end user experience the best it can be. Summit currently uses TouchworksEHR 15.1 CU10 and Allscripts PM 14.1. Last but not least, we are proud to say we have been part of the CRUG community for four years and are very excited to be presenting in this year’s conference.
Brenda Kopischke, CMA (AAMA), EHR Clinical Analyst at Mankato Clinic
The Mankato Clinic is one of Minnesota’s largest physician-owned, multispecialty, regional group practices with 135 providers located across ten sites in five communities. It employs over 750 people and ranks among the top 15 employers in the region. My work history is actually pretty boring being the Mankato Clinic is the only health care employer I’ve ever worked for. I started at the clinic working as a CMA (AAMA) in 1991 where Internal Medicine was my home for many years. In 2006, I made a change and moved to the float pool and floating within 10 different specialty departments. In 2008, everything changed when I was asked to join the EHR Project Management Team. I took part in the build, planning and training of our users and everything else that went along with implementation. We eventually became a department, and currently I am one of three EHR Clinical Analysts. I continue to build, design, plan, troubleshoot, train and work closely with our departments along with being a project team member in many other projects within the organization. I was also an ACE Advisor for 2 years. Our Mankato team attended our very first CRUG Spring Forum in 2010. We always come away with new information, new ideas and new connections. In 2014, I ran for the newly created position of CRUG Membership Director and was lucky enough to get it! In 2015, we made the change in location for the annual Spring Forums to be held in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (about an hour and 15 minutes from where I live). I love being your Membership Director, I love working with all the other Board Members, I love getting to know you, the clients/organizations and sponsors, and I love helping you in any way that I can. So, whether you are a member of the board or prefer to just be a member of CRUG, this group provides GREAT opportunities to connect, learn and enhance your own organization’s EHR.
Chris Duskin, Applications Development Supervisor, Summit Medical Management
Since starting my current role in October 2016, I am in charge of administration, maintenance and build of two EHR systems (NextGen & CPSI). Prior to this role, I spent 9 years as a Senior Application Specialist at the Hutchinson Clinic in Hutchinson, Kansas. My time began preparing and building Allscripts Touchworks v11.0 for the transition from paper to electronic. Over the next 8 1/2 years, I was the primary administrator of the Touchworks environment including Structured Note build, implementing new processes/procedures, interfaces, testing/implementing upgrades, reporting systems using PrecisionBI/Allscripts Touchworks Reporting, and I’m sure many other aspects of the Touchworks environment. I have been an active part of both the Western and Central Region User Groups for years, serving as the v11 Structured Note SIG leader since its inception, and serving as the Vice President and later President of CRUG. Now as Past President, I’m still excited to see the organization progressing in order to allow TouchWorks users to connect.
